Hi, I’m Scott, owner and guide at Island Kayak Adventures, Shell Key’s most popular kayak tour company. We are a local family-owned kayaking company. We specialize in guided eco kayak adventures, and keep our tours at $25 per person because we believe in the pay it forward philosophy. Growing up here in St. Petersburg has given me more experience in Shell Key than any other kayak company. This has allowed me the opportunity to find all the best kayaking spots and to accumulate the local knowledge to give you a true Florida experience, something other kayak companies just can’t do. I started this kayaking company to share these places with you. We launch from a public launch site in Tierra Verde, Florida, centrally located approximately 15 minutes from downtown St. Petersburg, and 10 minutes from St. Pete Beach. We combine the highest quality single & tandem sit inside kayaks, PFDs, and paddles with the best price for an experience that is second to none. We keep our groups small in order to give you the best, most personalized experience possible. Our goal is to share the natural beauty of the preserve with you in a safe and environmentally friendly way, just as we have for years. Help us make Island Kayak Adventures the most popular kayaking company in the Tampa Bay area. Come on out, make some new friends, and let us show you around this hidden gem! Get a sneak peek by checking out some of our photos.

Best Kayaking Trip Ever! As someone who has kayaked in multiple different places with multiple companies, Scott by far provides the best experience I have ever had! His prices are impossible to beat and the trip is well worth the money. If I am ever in the Tampa area again I wouldn't hesitate to... read more

Absolutely awesome! This is the only kayak tour that you need to take! Scott was an amazing guide, very informative and made sure everyone enjoyed themselves. It was wonderful to have a group of only 16 guests and it was incredibly affordable, which we greatly appreciated being a party of 5. We... read more

Fantastic tour for a fraction on what everyone else charges. This is not a cheaper watered down tour. It’s an extremely affordable full on adventure through multiple mangroves, waterways, & even a mid trip stop at the beach with ample time to wonder, swim, & search for sand dollars. This... read more

Mangroves, wildlife, and a good time, right price We looked at a number of available mangrove tour options and I can say this is decidedly one of the best value tours available. It is at least $30 cheaper than the next alternative, I assume largely because it's run and organized by a couple who have been doing it... read more

This is arguably the BEST kayak tour in the area! Why? Scott grew up exploring these mangrove swamps- knows them like the back of his hand. He has a story for everything- the hurricane of ‘81, fishing at Radars house... the names of individual birds, where to hunt shells. Super... read more

Try something new; experience a sunset on the water. This adventure is the perfect end to a Florida day. Enjoy a beautiful, shallow water sunset paddle through Shell Key Preserve. Float through the mangrove tunnels (tide permitting) and watch the sunset across the water. There’s a good chance the dolphins and manatee will come join us, too. It is one you will never forget!

Why We Do What We Do
Here is a little backstory on me…I grew up in Pinellas County, and have been boating, fishing, and kayaking at Shell Key Preserve since I was a kid. Much of the county has been developed and built up, but the natural beauty and slow pace of the preserve have stayed the same. My mission is to share this beautiful ecosystem with you at a price that anyone can afford because I enjoy sharing the Florida I grew up with and making new friends. I look forward to giving you the best kayaking adventure in the Tampa Bay area.
